Gazprom-Media Holding directors appoint Zharov as CEO

MOSCOW, Mar 24 (PRIME) -- The board of directors of Gazprom-Media Holding has appointed Alexander Zharov, former director of the Federal Service for Communications, IT, and Mass Communication Oversight, as the company’s new CEO, the company said in a statement on Tuesday.

“The board of directors of Gazprom-Media Holding has appointed Alexander Zharov as the CEO for three years starting from March 24, 2020. Before that Zharov was the director of the Federal Service for Communications, IT, and Mass Communication Oversight for eight years,” the statement read.

“Our goal is to strengthen the leading position of the holding in the dynamic environment…The experience Alexander Alexandrovich Zharov has gained during the years of supervision over the IT and communications sphere, his holistic and wide view of the Russian media, and his deep understanding of the sector’s processes will help us solve the tasks successfully,” the company said quoting Alexei Miller, CEO of Gazprom and chairman of Gazprom-Media’s board of directors.

Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin dismissed Zharov from the position of the service’s director on Monday. Former CEO of Gazprom-Media Dmitry Chernyshenko was appointed as a deputy prime minister in January.
